On August 22, 2025, the launch and implementation plan review meeting for the National Key R&D Program project “Research and Application of Key Technologies for Intelligent Tutors in Primary and Secondary School Science Education” was held in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by Yongzhi Li, the Project Leader, and Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the China National Institute of Education Sciences (NIES).
Yan Wu, Member of the leading Party group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (MOE), attended the meeting and delivered a speech. He especially emphasized that the project research must closely align with national strategic needs, strengthen the integration of theory and practice, and promote the deep convergence of key technological breakthroughs in large-scale educational models with practical scenarios in science education. Professor Zongka Yang, Director of NERCEL and NERC-EBD and Chair of the Expert Advisory Committee on Educational Digitalization of MOE, together with Professor Sannvya Liu, Vice President of Central China Normal University (CCNU), were invited as expert commentators on the project implementation plan.

The project is led by NIES and undertaken jointly by nine participating institutions, including Beijing Institute of Technology, Beihang University, the National Center for Educational Technology (NCET), iFLYTEK Co., Ltd., Beijing Normal University, CCNU, Zhejiang Normal University, University of Science and Technology of China, and the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Among them, CCNU is responsible for two sub-project research tasks. Professor Jianwen Sun, Deputy Director of NERCEL and NERC-EBD, was invited to serve as the co-leader of both the project’s system working group and application working group, playing an indispensable role in the project’s practical application and implementation. Sub-project leaders Xian Peng and Qian Wan, along with key research member Shengyingjie Liu and other project participants, attended the meeting as well.
NIES is a highland for innovation in educational research, a key platform for supporting national education decision-making, and a high-end national educational think tank with international influence. In recent years, the Center and NIES have established a sustainable collaborative mechanism in areas such as discipline development, scientific research, and talent cultivation, achieving a series of significant outcomes.
